Chain Lightning...Presto, 1989
The weather was perfect...no clouds, no wind, no dew, brilliant seeing, stable atmosphere, just a little frost well after the eclipse ended which seemed to coat the surroundings with brightly lit star-dust.
As totality approached, the milky way emerged from the moonshine and it felt like we were at new-moon. Pleiades shone brightly beside the glowing eclipsed moon. Saturn rising near Gemini. Scattered occasional falling stars. Mars still high and bright. Orion rose as the Earth's shadow started to move off the moon. Like seeing the sky from a different perspective, in a way I've not seen before. Stunning.
